Practical notes for GPU kernel dev setup

An r/MachineLearning post collects setup pitfalls for GPU kernel development: CUDA 13 drops Maxwell, Pascal and Volta, so toolkits must match compute capability; PyTorch's bundled CUDA runtime says nothing about nvcc availability; and GPU launches are async, so naive timing measures queueing and requires warmup, sync and CUDA events.

Community debates the value proposition of RL environment startups

A Reddit user questioned why startups building RL environments for frontier labs exist, arguing that if an environment is hard for models and trainable via RL, the team could raise money and train its own model. The post offers three explanations: underestimated pretraining difficulty, scarce past environments, or these firms eventually training models. No conclusion was reached.
