Alter launches access control for multi-user AI agents

YC S25 startup Alter launched access control for AI agents that act on behalf of multiple users. It proxies agent API calls, manages downstream credentials per end-user identity, enforces fine-grained runtime policies and keeps compliance-grade audit logs. The founders say custom multi-tenant auth was too costly for agents in regulated industries.

Pentagon AI oversight office significantly understaffed, GAO finds

A GAO report dated Oct. 14 says the Pentagon's Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office has not fully implemented the Defense Department's Responsible AI framework, partly due to staffing shortfalls: only three of its 10 authorized positions were filled as of February, and defense officials said they are unlikely to be filled. The office leads DoD AI adoption and integration, so the gaps weaken oversight.

Study Uses Claude to Automate Attack-Surface Reduction

Research shows automated attack-surface analysis with Claude: mapping reachable code and removing unneeded exposure reduces the reachability and severity of unknown vulnerabilities without fixing individual bugs. Across 25 open-source projects in multiple languages, Claude found 493 issues, which the authors say makes the approach an economical security improvement.

North Dakota Lawmakers Advance AI Regulation Bill

North Dakota's interim AI and Data Center Committee voted on Oct. 20 to recommend draft AI legislation to Legislative Management ahead of the 2027 session. It would also create a seven-member AI Council and a regulatory sandbox; some lawmakers questioned limiting enforcement to the AG.
