Gartner: open models handle 90% of agentic work at a twentieth of the cost
Gartner says about nine in ten enterprise agentic workflow steps are routine and open-weight models handle them at parity for a quarter of the cheapest closed model's price, or as little as a twentieth versus running a frontier model on every step. Real savings are closer to five or six times, and value is shifting to harnesses.
