LA City moves to regulate AI rent-setting technology
The Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to have housing staff report on policy recommendations for regulating algorithmic rent-setting and AI technologies. Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez introduced an Oct. 13 motion calling for safeguards, transparency requirements, a registration program and dedicated funding, noting the city cannot currently track the technology's impact on the rental market. The motion cites recent federal enforcement actions and concerns over housing affordability, competition and tenant stability.
