Bain: $6T annual AI revenue needed to pay off data center investments
Bain & Company research says hyperscaler AI infrastructure capex could reach $780 billion in 2026 and $1.5 trillion annually by 2031; assuming capex is about 25% of revenue, the AI market would need $6 trillion in annual revenue to pay for it. But current consumer and enterprise AI markets may be worth at most $1.8 trillion by 2031, leaving a $4.2 trillion gap that requires new markets such as search, autonomous vehicles, physical AI and drug discovery.
