Clojure in the age of language models

An HN discussion argues that LLMs write small code well but struggle at high-level design, so developers should focus on reasoning about algorithms and data flows. Clojure's REPL lets functions be redefined and state kept in place, helping agents diagnose and swap code without downtime.

Nvidia ICML spotlight paper found to have bugs

A Reddit user says Nvidia's robotics world model DreamDojo, an ICML spotlight paper, improved only about 0.5 dB PSNR over Cosmos 2.5 despite using 44k hours of human data and 256 H100s. Released code has bugs reported in GitHub issues affecting pre-training, post-training, and evaluation, making the results suspect.

1.26M-param model turns TUIs into real UI

A developer trained a 1.26M-parameter, 5MB axial transformer to label each cell of terminal UIs like htop and vim with one of 15 roles, then convert regions into A2UI components via deterministic code, sending only JSON patches when layouts change. Held-out real-screen mIoU is 0.51.

LLM ports TypeScript compiler to Rust, costing $420K

A developer ported the TypeScript compiler, checker and LSP to Rust using OpenAI and Anthropic models, spending over $420,000 in API tokens; Claude Opus 5.5 built a working v0 from scratch in 10 hours. The project claims 100% compatibility on tested projects, but the author says he never read the code, making it an early release.

User builds six small models cheaply via ML Intern

A developer who couldn't find the lightweight model he wanted on Hugging Face Hub used the ML Intern agent to build it himself. From a roughly 450-word prompt he got a 0.8B prompt-rewriter the next day that runs on CPU, returns valid output 99.7% of the time and uses about a quarter of its 9B teacher's tokens, with total project cost, including labeling, at USD 16. He then built five more models the same way.

Ex-ByteDance Intern's AI Lab Valued at $200M

Former ByteDance intern Tian Keyu raised nearly $30 million from 5Y Capital and IDG Capital for a stealth world-models lab, valuing it at $200 million post-investment. The unnamed company, which has no product yet, targets the field championed by Fei-Fei Li and Yann LeCun, building AI that simulates real-world physics for robotics, interactive video and autonomous driving.
