Retrospective Reverse-Engineering of Apple's ANE

The author resumed reverse-engineering Apple’s M1 Neural Engine (ANE) after abandoning the driver three years ago, arguing the ANE’s design limited general-purpose use. With the M5 integrating ANE-like cores into the GPU, standalone NPUs may be fading; the project aims to map the M1 ANE’s internal architecture and assumptions.
