Amazon scales back Nova models, reorganizes AI teams

Bloomberg reports that Amazon, after its in-house LLMs underperformed, is scaling back most Nova models, putting text, image and video models on minimal "keep the lights on" support. Resources are shifting to a single frontier-model effort led by Pieter Abbeel, whose robotics firm Covariant Amazon acquired in 2024. The move follows last week's closure of an 80-person AGI research office in San Francisco.
