US agencies test robots and AI for wildfire response

Extreme wildfire activity has more than doubled worldwide. US federal agencies already use drones to map fires, and are now testing ground robots to move equipment over rugged terrain, plus AI-enhanced fire and smoke behavior forecasts. The tools are not ready for routine operations but could improve suppression efficiency and firefighter safety.
