South Korea plans $3.5 billion frontier AI model starting next year

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT plans to develop a $3.5 billion frontier AI model starting next year, selecting a lead developer via competitive tender as early as February after parliament approves the 2027 budget. It will combine state equity investment with private funding and concentrate chips, data and talent, separate from its existing home-grown foundation model programme.
