SIU and Springfield Memorial invest $2M in AI medical training

Springfield Memorial Foundation granted $1 million and the SIU School of Medicine Dean's Fund matched it, totaling $2 million to expand AI and extended reality use at the Ed Curtis Laboratory for Innovation in Medical Education. The lab trains clinical procedures, diagnostic reasoning and patient communication without real patients; the funds support immersive, personalized learning.
