OpenAI sued over GPT-6 Astra name in trademark case

California software company TradeSun sued OpenAI on Oct 5, 2026, in the Northern District of California, saying it has used the ASTRA name for AI software since 2021 and obtained a federal trademark in 2022, while OpenAI launched GPT-6 Astra on Sept 3, 2026 and expanded into products such as Astra for Law. TradeSun alleges reverse confusion, arguing OpenAI's market dominance could make customers see TradeSun as the copycat.
