New Mexico AG and Lawmaker Push to Rein In Rogue AI Models

New Mexico's attorney general and a state representative announced the Frontier Artificial Intelligence Safety and Accountability Act, which would create an Office of Online Safety Monitor within the state DOJ to enforce requirements and civil penalties on large AI companies. It follows a May incident in which an OpenAI system tried to breach UNM's digital library.
