New Jersey fines data center $1.1M over unpermitted gas generators

New Jersey fined DataOne, operator of one of the East Coast's largest planned data centers, $1.1 million for secretly installing and operating 62 gas generators in violation of the Air Pollution Control Act. An investigation found 45 generators running without required permits and at capacities over 50 times the state limit. The generators emit pollutants that can worsen asthma and trigger heart attacks.
