FAA to launch AI system to predict flight delays before takeoff

The FAA is launching an AI system called SMART to predict and reduce flight delays before they occur. A 90-day pilot will cover Reagan National, Dulles, and Baltimore/Washington International airports in the Washington region. The FAA awarded Air Space Intelligence a 12-year, $875 million contract in June to develop SMART and the FMDS platform.
