Denver Council Rejects AI Chatbot Contract Extension

Denver City Council voted 9-3 against a five-year, $3.9 million contract extension with Citibot for its 'Sunny' chatbot. The mayor's office says Sunny, launched in 2024, has about 90% customer satisfaction, handles 72 languages and cut 311 hold times, while opposing council members called for pausing and setting AI boundaries. The contract ends in late October, and the city says it is exploring options to keep Sunny.
