ChatGPT wiped out Nairobi academic-writing industry

The New York Times reports ChatGPT wiped out Nairobi's industry of writing academic papers for foreign students; at its peak at least 40,000 people worked in the sector. Writer Teresios Bundi wrote over 2,500 papers across twelve years charging $40–$70 each; after ChatGPT launched in 2022 prices and orders collapsed and related gig work declined.
